Revive Charity Fundraising

Tweak.net.nz

Many years ago, we had a group that was made up of friends and other gamers back in 2001 to 2018/19. I created the group and the name, for these following reasons:

Tweak is a computer gaming/social/networking group established in 2001, based in Whangarei, New Zealand.

It’s a gathering of computer enthusiasts/gamers, who want to get together and compare PC hardware, software, modding, overclocking and other projects.

Also, it’s a support network of members that can help each other with problems they may have experienced before with their PCs. Giving suggestions on solutions and tweaking machines/software to get the best out of them.

We are focusing on hosting our own LANs, here in Northland and gaming with the latest games. We try to maintain our own game servers, and also provide stats and details on some of them.

We held multiple LANs and attending many events like NZ's Armageddon Comic Book convention.

The group eventual discontinued in 2018-19 when there was more of a push for gaming online, online steaming and less of a need to come together. Which was a bummer.

Our website got quite large, with multiple members posting news on tech innovations and game release. In the end, the site slowing diminished and finally looked like this in 2017: http://web.archive.org/web/20170408103213/http://www.tweak.net.nz/home

Straya Gaming & 24 Hour Charity Event

My First 24 Hours

During 2017, my sister had gone away for the week, and wanted me to house-sit. She suggested that I bring my pc and so I was bored and looking for something to do in regards to gaming. I had been playing on Straya Gaming's Arma 3 - Invade and Annex server for a while, and found that I had enjoyed playing with a few of the other players. (Check out my oldest youtube video from around that time - Angry Aussies)

So in Straya Gaming's forum site I posted a message, and asked if anyone wanted to play I&A for 24 hours...

I did it, but didn't have anyone who wanted to do it... that's ok.

My Second 24 Hours

Two years later I did it again. I posted on the end of my 2017 post and asked if anyone wanted to join this time. This time I suggested it would be for charity. I was got a lot more support this time around, with members of the Admin getting involved. This created a new post:

The charity I organised to raise funds for, was involved in gaming for mental health: https://checkpointorg.com At that time, it was run in both New Zealand and Australia and their website had lots of resources (I think it still does) for gamers to use and to help them. A brilliant cause to fundraise for.

All the members that wanted to be involved joined and we had a great event, ending in mass chaos in the end, with admins dropping in a map race and spawning in submarines and other vehicles as obstacles. it was awesome and in the end we raised $1005.

Unfortunately, when I tried this again in 2021,  there wasn't enough support for it, and to tell you the truth, I was hoping to get more people involved. But there wasn't any support from others and when someone approached me from another gaming group that wanted to get involved, I jumped at it.

So I moved over to Task Force Koala and ran the event there.

24 Hour Charity Event and Task Force Koala

With the help of the Task Force Koala (TFK) group , we changed our fund raising focus to Beyond Blue. This is a large mental health organisation in Australia.  It was a bummer that we had to change from our last organisation checkpointorg, as they were shutting down their administration.

We had tried to make this event a bit more inclusive, with inviting many of the gaming groups we were interconnected with. Some did attend, but the push wasn't really as good as I had hoped it would be.

Here were the plans I was hoping we would do, but there wasn't really any involvement from many other members.

2021 Charity Event

We managed to raise about $2,025, which was a great result.
